Domestic Abuse
New TV ads which highlight domestic abuse.
The first full 60-second ad will be shown on Scottish Television and Grampian at 19.15 hours (halfway through Emmerdale). Two 30-second ads will screen at 16.41 and 17.45.
Directed by the acclaimed photographer David Eustace, the ads are shot in black and white and contain strong visual imagery. They reinforce the messages that domestic abuse:
• affects all social classes;
• all ages;
• it is not just physical; and
• it affects children.
The freephone national domestic abuse helpline number 0800 027 1234 - now available seven days a week 10am-10pm - features in the adverts.
Social Justice Minister Jackie Baillie said:
"It's sad that during this season of goodwill, family tensions can lead to domestic abuse - verbal or physical. This is unacceptable. Our new advertising campaign is about changing attitudes towards abuse, as well as giving those who suffer the support they need. "We must root out domestic abuse from Scottish society. That's why we have recently published a national strategy to find long term solutions and launched the biggest ever funding package. "One in five women in Scotland suffer domestic abuse at some point in their lives - that's one in five too many."
The ads will also be shown on Border Television,
Channel 4 and Channel 5.
The domestic abuse helpline is sponsored by Thus plc, who meet the costs of the 0800 number.
