MORE BEHIND THE SCENE
I received a call from Gillian Berrie, head of SYGMA Films, asking if I’d be interested in working on a production for NETFLIX titled ‘OUTLAW KING’ that David Mackenzie was directing.
Aware of the role of a stills photographer on set it wasn’t something I was really interested in and so prior to agreeing Gillian, David and I had lunch to discuss the project. With all respect to film stills photographers (a talent in itself) it’s just not something I would normally do but knowing both Gillian and David personally I was very excited and open to the idea of creating a behind the scenes document that perhaps we could create into a book.
David offered me the chance to have absolute access and free rein in terms of making the images, supported by Gillian and the films 1st AD Danny McGrath. I was given incredible access to all areas and many of the main talent have since become friends.
Netflix were incredibly supportive of my involvement but alas a publication never came to light but who knows perhaps one day we can still create something that reflects the hopes of the lunch David, Gillian and I enjoyed.
No matter what Gillian and David true to their word were simply wonderful to work with. No drama nor agendas other than trying to create work we all could be proud of. It was a great insight and wonderful experience I’ll always be grateful for.
Attached a small selection of my edit and layouts from ‘behind the scenes” of OUTLAW KING.
I still hope one day we can make the book we all hoped for.
